The French ski resort of Meribel sits in the heart of the Three Valleys ski area — widely considered the largest interconnected ski are in the world. With vibrant nightlife and plenty of family-oriented activities, it’s a resort which works for a broad range of groups.

From a base-level of 1450m, the slopes run to an impressive 2950m at the top of Mont Vallon. Skiers can explore 150km of pistes in the local area, with 650km across the entire Three Valleys. A total of 46 lifts whisk skiers up into Meribel’s peaks and valleys, including some of France’s fastest and most modern gondolas and chairlifts.

The ski terrain accessible around Meribel is just a joy to explore, with gentle learner terrain in the Altiport, sweeping blue and red runs, epic downhill from the Saulire peak to base-level and plenty of powder fields when fresh snow arrives. With well-positioned lifts and varied terrain, the slopes of Meribel are suited to all levels of skier or boarder.

There are two snowparks on the slopes around Meribel: the large DC Park and the slightly smaller Moonpark. Combined, they offer some of the finest freestyle skiing of any resort in the Alps, attracting keen amateurs and pro-riders alike.

Meribel is home to a number of satellite villages, the largest of which are Mottaret and Village. A free bus that runs from 7am - 11.30pm offers easy access around the resort, and the Olympic gondola runs from the lower villages, including Bride les Bains, Les Allues and Le Raffort, all the way up to La Chaudanne and the base of the main lifts.

The nearest airport is Chambery, 1.5 hours’ drive away. Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon are all around 2.5-3 hours from Meribel, and private charters also fly directly in to the Altiport. Skiers can also take the train from London – Moutiers.
Visitors can find a whole host of lively apres ski venues, from the heavy beats of the piste-side Folie Douce to the welcoming bars down in town – there’s something for everybody.

For groups looking to make the most of the vibrant apres ski, venues like the Rond Point, the Folie Douce and Jacks are popular — with plenty of live music to kick things off. For a more relaxing drink, Barometer, Fifty50 and La Poste are top options.
Away from the slopes, Meribel offers a massive range of non-ski activities suitable for families with youngsters, non-skiers or simply visitors keen to enjoy the Alps in different ways.

The Olympic Centre is home to a large swimming pool and climbing centre. You can catch a game of ice hockey in there and even take a spin round the track in go-karts!

For those in search of outdoor adventure, everything from snow-shoeing and dog-sledding to paragliding and hiking are readily available in Meribel and the surrounding valleys. It’s an outdoor-lover’s paradise!

Shoppers can browse everything from top-end luxury boutiques to fully kitted out ski shops and charming local markets. And if you’re in need of a little pampering, there are massage services and spa facilities to make the most of as well.

Parents with children in tow have no shortage of snow-play areas to explore, and there are plenty of non-ski activities including swimming, ice-skating, sledging, bowling, dog-sledding and snow-shoeing to enjoy. In short, Meribel is wonderfully well-suited to families.

Families in search of childcare can book accommodation such as the Hotel Alba, which offers in-house childcare packages, or select from a good range of external childcare companies which are all well-established.
