Widely considered among France’s most family-friendly ski resorts, Les Gets nestles on the edge of the expansive Portes Du Soleil ski area, within an hour’s drive of Geneva Airport. A pretty and traditional Alpine town, Les Gets sits at an altitude of just over 1,100 metres with pistes running up to 2,275 metres.

It’s a very charming and characterful place, with traditional chalets and hotels round every corner. The resort regularly wins awards for its family friendliness and this — combined with good learner and intermediate slopes and a fast airport transfer — makes Les Gets a very popular choice for parents with kids in tow. It’s not a traffic free resort, but there is a road train running round town which makes it safe and fun for children to get around.

Les Gets is home to an excellent range of beginner terrain — most notably at mid-mountain level — though the home run is steep so many people take the gondola back down at the end of their day. Keen intermediates can zoom along Les Gets’ sweeping blue and red runs, and there’s plenty of exciting terrain to explore. The famous Les Gets bowl offers a number of pistes, from green to red, and all routes lead back to the base of the various chairlifts. Much of the ski area sits beneath the tree-line so it’s very beautiful, too.

On the other side of the resort from the main network of pistes sits Mont Chéry — home to steeper slopes and a lovely mountain restaurant or two. The terrain around Mont Chéry is slightly limited, but for advanced skiers no visit to Les Gets is complete without exploring the steep runs and mogulled off-piste round the back of the mountain.

Mont Chéry also boasts a fine snow-park, with a good range of kickers and rails best-suited to learner and intermediate freestyle skiers and boarders. The south-facing slope offers spectacular views over the town and the peaks and valleys beyond. Skiers can access the park from the Grand Ourse chairlift. There are minimal drag lifts and only one or two flat sections, so in general it’s a good resort for snowboarders. But if you’re an advanced rider keen on hitting the snow parks, you’re better off in nearby Avoriaz.

One major advantage of a visit to Les Gets is the excellent range of accommodation options to pick from. There are some wonderful family-only chalets with in-house childcare add-ons available as well as many chalets with a great range of UK airport departure points, and transfers included. If you’re in the market for top end luxury, Les Gets has a number of beautiful 5* and 6* chalets to consider. If you are keen to drive out, the resort also has some lovely privately-owned properties too.

If a fast 1 hour Geneva airport transfer, peaceful, charming and traditional resort centre and good amenities for kids sound like your kind of resort, then Les Gets is well worth close consideration.
There are a few good bars around town, with a relaxed feel and welcoming atmosphere, but Les Gets is not known for its nightlife. It’s a largely peaceful and quiet resort, and doesn’t work particularly well for groups looking for lively après ski or night time partying. If you’re down in town and in search of a place to stop in for a drink, try L'Anka Tapas Bar, Christiania Fireside Lounge Bar, Le Barbylone Bar, L'ApreSki Bar, The Irish Pub, Ba Bar, Bar Bush or Le Cowbelle Bar & Restaurant.
Away from the slopes, Les Gets offers a diverse range of non-ski activities to keep visitors entertained. Aside from delving into the town’s 800-year history, you can enjoy a little rest and relaxation at the Les Gets' Beauty Salon and Wellness Centre, delve into the Alpine wilderness on a snow-shoeing or dog-sledding adventure, or take a slide on the local ice rink. For something altogether more Alpine, how about a visit to the goat farm or cheese dairy?!

Visitors to Les Gets have a wealth of welcoming restaurants and cafes to choose from, with menu plans, speciality dishes and locations to suit a wide range of budgets, tastes and needs. Being a traditional mountain town the Savoyard specialities are popular, but there’s much more to les Gets’ food scene than tartiflette or fondue!
