Jet-setters’ playground, dream family destination, charming village and après ski hotspot… The iconic French ski resort of Courchevel is all this and more. The resort as a whole is home to four villages, each set up the mountainside from the base of the valley to the top — Le Praz (1300m), Village (1550m), Moriond (1650m) and Courchevel itself (1850m). Each village has a unique feel with accommodation options to suit a wide range of budgets — despite the resort’s reputation for luxury.

The green and blue pistes around la Croisette in Courchevel 1850 are ideal for learner skiers, and there’s a great range of ski schools operating here. Intermediates can explore beautiful, rolling slopes around Courchevel 1850 and all the way down to the base village of le Praz at 1300m. After hitting the local slopes, advanced skiers can jump on one of the liaison links toward Meribel, les Menuires and Val Thorens, where a spectacular breadth and variety of terrain is there for the taking.

For parents with children making their first turns on the snow, Courchevel offers family-only properties with ski school and nursery add-ons available, and the beginner slopes here are outstanding. Up at Courchevel 1850 and Moriond, broad, sloping pistes run off the Saulire mountain and down through the forest, providing an ideal terrain for children to make swift progress on skis.

The Family Park in Courchevel is a great place to head to if you’re keen to master the basics of freestyle skiing, but there’s not much scope for progression. Freestylers in search of half-pipes, rails and kickers are best advised to head over to Meribel, where the DC Park and the Moon Park offer all the hits you could hope for. If you’re in search of off-piste adventure then grab a guide and a Three Valleys lift pass, and head into the powder fields! The Three Valleys are busy and the easily accessible off-piste gets tracked out fast, but good guides know where to find fresh snow.

Despite its expensive reputation, Courchevel does offer a massive range of accommodation options for people on a budget. All four of the resorts making up Courchevel offer 3* accommodation options with a wide range of travel plans to suit many different requirements. For mid-range chalet seekers the same applies, Courchevel’s range of chalets and chalet hotels is superb. As for the luxury market, Courchevel is pretty much the home of Alpine luxury and the range is breathtaking.

Getting to Courchevel is easy – the resort sits within reach of Chambery, Geneva and Lyon airports, and Moutiers train station is wonderfully close by as well. If you have the budget you can even fly straight into the Altiport by chartered plane.
From Courchevel 1850 all the way to le Praz at the base of the valley, you’ll find a huge range of bars and clubs. In some, wealthy visitors think nothing of dropping a thousand Euros on a bottle of Champagne. In others, stylish couples sip cocktails in chic surroundings whilst elsewhere, seasonnaires on a budget let their hair down to live music on packed dancefloors.

Lively spots across Courchevel worth a look if you’re in search of an après ski drink or night on the town include Le Tremplin, Ku De Ta, Bar Le Jump and Le Milk Pub. In Moriond, popular venues include Rocky's bar, the Signal Bar, the Bubble Bar and Funky Fox.
Away from the pistes, Courchevel has plenty going on to keep non-skiers entertained. Adventure-lovers can book helicopter tours, show-shoeing treks, husky-sledding and parapente, and if the weather closes in there’s ice-skating, swimming, indoor climbing and an indoor arcade. For a taste of the high-life, Courchevel is home to stylish boutiques and luxury labels including Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Hermes, so it’s quite the place to splash the cash!
